Which is the BEST Essential Oil Company?

best eo companyAre you doing some research and trying to determine which essential oil company is the best one?  Good for you.  I did the same thing before coming to the conclusion that the best essential oil company is Young Living™ Essential Oils.   But about a year before I did this research, I tried a couple of Young Living’s oils.   I had heard from several people how amazing Thieves is and thought I’d give it a shot. I thought they were amazing, but before I really dove in head first with Young Living™ Essential Oils, I did try a few other brands that were cheaper in an effort to save money.   I tried some from a health food store and another brand that I found online.  They had one that was supposed to be similar to Thieves and a few other blends that I purchased.  I found out quickly that you really do get what you pay for.  The quality, purity, and effectiveness just wasn’t the same.  Compromising that quality didn’t save me any time or money in the long run.  And then I had to ask myself why I was trying to find something else when I already knew what works and why I was buying from a company that is copying Young Living™ instead of buying the real thing?

There are some things that you can buy the generic store brand and be fine.  And then there are things like essential oils where you can’t skimp on quality.  It reminds me a little bit of my 10 year old’s shoes.  I used to buy him the cheap $12 athletic shoes and they wouldn’t last a month.  Again, I wasn’t saving any money since I was going to have to replace them more often.  Now that I buy him name brand shoes, they normally last him until he outgrows them.  I guess I like to learn things the hard way.

Reasons why I chose Young Living™:

  • I tried them and they’re awesome!
  • They have over 20 years of experience and research.
  • Seed to Seal guarantee.
  • Each batch of oil is put through rigorous in-house and third party testing, yet only 28% of all oils are accepted.   The rest are used on Young Living™ farms as a natural herbicide.
  • Young Living™ owns thousands of acres of sustainable farmland worldwide.  They have farms in Utah, Ecuador, Idaho, Oman, France, and other places throughout the world.   The farms are open to the public and people can actually go in and be a part of the process.
  • Young Living™ is currently doing business in over 20 different countries.

Questions to ask:

  • Does your bottle of essential oil smell like a pure plant or unnaturally sweet?  It should smell like a pure plant.  {YL’s smell like the pure plant!}
  • Does the aroma vary from batch to batch?  It should.  Otherwise, it could be a sign that it has been chemically altered to get that consistent smell, or industrially processed on a large scale.  {YL’s aromas vary from batch to batch!}
  • Does the company allow you to visit the farms and be a part of the planting, harvesting, and distillation process?  {Yes.  You can with YL!}
  • Are the plants organically grown?  How does your supplier handle pest and weed control?  {Yes.  YL uses essential oils for pest control and does weed control by hand.}
  • Is each batch of oil subjected to rigorous in house and third party testing for purity and therapeutic quality?  {YL does!}
  • Does your supplier know the proper geographical location, soil conditions, temperatures, and seasons that each plant should be grown before distillation in order to produce the best possible essential oil?  {YL does!}
  • Are the oils extracted with chemical solvents?  {YL’s are not!}
  • Does your supplier understand the correct temperature each oil needs to be distilled at in order to preserve the delicate compounds?  {YL does!}

Here is a great excerpt from Healing Oils of the Bible by David Steward, Ph.D.:

You can find oils in retails stores whose labels say things like “100% pure, organic, and natural.”  They may even say “therapeutic grade.”  Most of the time, this would be an outright lie, but a legal one since no government agency has defined the term “therapeutic” and no government agency, as yet, regulates the content of labels on essential oils in a way that would remedy such deceptions.

As for “100%” that quantitative term does not really mean 100%.  In some cases 100% can mean as little as 10% of the real stuff while the rest may be a colorless, odorless petrochemical.  Yet this is tolerated as okay in the retail trade.

I have no doubt that when Young Living says their oils are 100% pure and therapeutic grade, that this is the truth.

After I made the decision that Young Living™ is the best, I purchased a starter kit with no intentions to ever “sell” the oils.  I hate to pay full price for anything, so when I saw that there was a wholesale discount available, that was right up my alley.  That’s all I cared about at first, just getting that discount.  But once I started using the oils, I fell in love and just couldn’t help but share with others.  All of that to say, that I don’t think Young Living™ is the best company just because I sell the products.  It is actually quite the opposite.  I decided to share the products with others because of how thoroughly impressed I was with the purity and effectiveness of these essential oils.
